The Secret Behind Our Happy Baby: A Peek Into Parenting

People often say, "You have such a happy baby!" But no one’s ever asked why... until now. So, I’m embarking on a journey to explore the factors that contribute to our little one’s happiness. And, who knows, maybe it will inspire some of you along the way!

But a quick disclaimer: If you're easily offended, have strong opinions that can't be swayed, or consider yourself particularly sensitive, this might not be the read for you. We’ll dive into some real topics here: pregnancy, childbirth, pooping, and everything in between—all without shame.

What to Expect:

  • Real Talk: Pregnancy, childbirth, and the messy side of parenting.
  • Research + Wisdom: Backed by science (where possible), but also word-of-mouth knowledge and cultural insights.
  • No Judgment: We all know that every parent has their own way of raising a child. This is just one perspective.

So, whether you read for fun or to pick up some parenting tips, I hope this journey gives you a fresh look at what makes babies happy. Ready to dive in? Let’s go! 😊

Independent midwives lead low-risk care, home birth is a normal choice, and after the baby arrives a kraamzorg maternity nurse comes to your home for days — cooking, teaching, watching, reassuring. It is not perfect, and the home birth rate has fallen, but as a model of humane, mother-centred care it remains one of the best examples in the world.

Partum and postpartum friends: the merino pants that carried me through

One pair of oversized merino men's sweatpants from John Merino in Amsterdam, worn from early pregnancy through a year of motherhood, worn into holes, and then repaired with a patch made from barely-worn baby trousers. A small story about circular clothing, repair, and what motherhood actually does to a body and a mind.
